I would like to commission a painting. What should I do?
The first step is to have a think about what sort of painting you would like. Have a look at the examples shown on this website - you might want something similar to an example on here or you might want something completely different. You may want to show me some photographs and see what ideas I have for your painting. Contact me and we will be able to discuss the commission.

How long will my painting take?
This will depend upon how busy I am, although the actual painting usually takes about a week. Obviously some periods will be busier than others, for example before Christmas. Let me know if you would like your painting for a specific date and I will do my best to do it for you.

What photographs should I provide?
I will need a variety of photographs that you think really show his or her personality, possibly including ‘the one’ that you’d like painting.  I can also use a mixture of the photos e.g. background from one, face from another. I’d prefer that you sent these to me digitally, but good old-fashioned photos will be fine.

It is really important that I have a variety of photographs as I will use them as reference for colour.

Will you need any other information?
I am happy to create a painting based on the photographs you provide me with, but you might want to consider the following:
  • ideas about colour or pattern – if you want a specific colour in the background or to feature in lettering or clothing
  • whether you would like their name or any other information incorporated into the painting – and whether you have any ideas about how you would like this to be done
  • any ideas about the feel of the painting that you’d like . . . e.g. a soft neutral painting, a graphic painting with strong typography, a decorative painting with lots of surface pattern. If you want it to match a room or something else you need to let me know.
